The Elms College Sophomore Leadership Program is a track designed specifically for students in their sophomore year. Participants in this program will be challenged to develop their leadership skills, and to make a difference in their perceptive communities. Through leadership programming, workshops, and activities, students will self-reflect, develop skills, and make changes through action.
Leadership Program students and facilitators meet approximately once a month. There will be a one-day weekend retreat in the fall, one Leadership conference in the spring, and a group community service project.
Affirming the Elms College values of faith, community, justice, and excellence, the Sophomore Leadership Program strives to offer all students the opportunity to engage in a variety of experiences that benefit their leadership development.
The program utilizes the following methods to encourage leadership development:
- Engaging workshops and seminars
- Mentoring relationships with faculty, staff and students
- Opportunities for community service
- Discussions with peers about important personal & social issues
Participants will be presented with a variety of professional development opportunities (optional and outside the SLP), to support their growth and identity as a young leader.

The deadline for submission is Friday, May 7, 2021. Notification of acceptance will be sent out on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Be aware that space is limited for the program, and if accepted, students are required to attend a series of mandatory meetings/training sessions. The dates for these sessions will be provided along with all letters of acceptance.
